Inspirational Places

I am inspired by the landscapes of the places where I live and play. I love the desert and the mountains. Some of my favorite places are the colorful Sonoran Desert of central Arizona and the Mojave Desert around Death Valley in California. The mountains of Colorado, from the Sangre de Cristos from New Mexico to the edge of the San Luis Valley, the Upper Arkansas River Valley near Salida, Buena Vista and Leadville, and east to the area known as South Park, all give me endless subject matter for painting.

A Link to History: The Schaeffer Cabin

In 1932 the Schaeffer brothers built a cabin near the Placer Mine on Tarryall Creek 3 miles north of the townsite of Como, Colorado. In 1954, Charles Wright bought the miners' cabin for $75. The cabin was deteriorating, and he moved it to it's current location on Pine Street in Como and restored it. In 2004, my husband and I discovered the cabin and purchased it from Charles Wright. It serves as my summer studio, as well as a base camp for all of our recreation activities in the beautiful mountains surrounding South Park. The cabin is on the Park County register of historic places, and we are preserving the original structure.

Inside the Schaeffer Cabin, go back 80 years in history.
